Hi,
The best ones to use are 2 or 3W wedge (capless) bulbs. You may be able to improve the lighting efficiency of the new bulbs by removing the coloured covers that clip over them inside the instrument binnacle. although If you do that you'll probably have to buy bulbs in the colour of your choice. Whatever bulbs you choose the dimmer will still work, it's only LEDs that that the dimmer is incompatible with.

Personally, I think that changing to LEDs is a worthwhile modification.

These are the bulbs that are needed for the dash.

If you do buy LED, you'll need some like these.
