Can anyone help? Looking for the above part so my speedo doesn't read 130 when it's doing 50... (currently got a 2.8 gear in there so it's all kinds of messed up)
Oh, and hi everyone. I've not been on here in about four years!

Hi,
Try Burton Power or it might be worth asking these people:

If you do manage to find one, it might be a good idea to buy a new retaining cap, as they are really difficult to remove without mashing them up beyond recognition.
Good luck finding a drive gear.
All the best,
Andrew.

I`m just wondering, I assume that`s prizing them out which butchers them? I may well be wrong, it`s only 1/2 an idea - but is it not possible to use the speedo shaft as a drift & tap it out from the other side? (I have known that to work on other boxes - admittedly with a smaller, more rigid cap.)Andrew 2.8i wrote:as they are really difficult to remove without mashing them up beyond recognition.
Curious if anyone`s done this?

I suppose almost anything long and thin could be used as a drift to try to remove the cap. It was some time ago when I did mine, and I can't check because my Haynes manual is in the garage, but I think I just did as the manual instructed (classic rookie error!), which is to prise out the cap.
All the best,
Andrew.

Hi,
I've just checked and a new speedo retaining cap is £8. I didn't pay anything near that for the one I bought, so perhaps Steve's recommended technique is probably worth a try.

If you`re replacing the shaft anyway, you`ve nothing to lose. Just gentle taps with a small hammer, it should start to move, if not....plan B?
