2.0 Pinto needed

Post by devils-touch »

Im looking for a new engine for my capri, just spent 7 months getting her sorted, MOT'd and taxed and first day out the engine goes boom grrrrrrr

does anyone have a decent 2.0 pinto for sale near preston in lancashire, dont mind a little travel for the right engine.

Also a bit of advice, mine is the 2.0S auto so would any engine do or would I need one thats been used in an auto?

Thanks Guys

Colin

Any 2 litre is fine. But whats wrong with yours? Your better off rebuilding what's in there. A "new" pintos gona be well pricey.

And when you say "gone boom" what do you mean exactly. Pintos are bombproof and not like modern engines. You sure it's not a simple top end rebuild required.

The engine has lost all compression and wont go over 1500rpm when you slip it in drive,
it wont idle unless you keep it over 2000rpm and even then its not smooth, Ive been told by the garage that its lost all compression so will require all pistons rings doing and the engine has been run on unleaded which now means the head wants new valve seats and an overhaul. sounded like a lot of work and advised it would be cheaper to find a decent 2nd hand engine.
This might be well worth saving but its beyond what i can do and the specialist round here want a lot just to sort strip and diagnose it.

Any ideas who would be able to do the work at a good price in Lancahire and im happy to keep my engine as it had lots of power before the horrible pinking sound and loss of throttle.

Thanks for the help

Hello Mate,

I am currently in the process of doing a cosworth YB conversion in my 2.0s. I will be slotting the new engine in hopefully around April.

If you could wait that long, then I would have a perfect 2.0 pinto engine with all anciliaries ready to slot right in. (should you need all the extra bits aswell). Got a 3ltr weber auto choke carb, also a re-worked and ported cylinder head for unleaded fuel use.

By all means listen to the guys and try to get it sorted, but if not, just give me a PM, like I said it will be up for grabs in April.

Live in Bedfordshire.

Hope it gets sorted,

Max

"the garage"??? I find it hard to believe its lost all compression across all 4... Could be as simple as a head gasket. Unless its done upwards of 200000 miles itl certainly be workable. I've had them engines out an stripped in two hours. In fact I changed one at a show in two hours as many members on here saw. It sounds to me like "the garage " wants to make money off your arse. Where in the country are you?

Hi, there is someone on ebay with an engine located in Wigan. I have bought a few parts from him in the past, seems a nice guy. It ends today though

Here's the link

Seems there's no helping some people. Il give you scrap value for the "knackered" engine.

I'd strip and diagnose it for £20. It takes 10 mins to get a pinto head off.

Thanks for all the help guys, managed to get a new engine from a local garage who is into the racing scene (Audi Quattro) who had one spare so dropped it in and shes running lovely but the oil cooler on the rad had knackered threads so gona try fit an external cooler to bypass this and then shes ready for the road once more.

Old engine had large chunk missing between piston 3 and 4 so big problem, let it go to a friend who may use the head for his project.

Woohoo almost on the road again
