Hi all,
I am trying to find out what the original colour of a type 5 gearbox was for a 2.8i Capri. Was it all black or just the bell housing?
Thanks in advance
Paul

From memory all the ford boxes Ive seen have been black . You really only have 2 choices either black or ford blue .

I have had two type 9 gearboxed both were painted black.
Re: TYPE 5 gearbox colour
I think the traces of paint remaining on mine were black, although that was a type 9 too. Don`t recall ever seeeing a blue one.

Re: TYPE 5 gearbox colour
Thanks for all the replies guys,
I went for this in the end, somehow black didn’t cut it for me. I’m hoping it will contrast nicely when the shell is back from the body shop. Bare metal and then coating the underbody in bed liner. Should be good for the next 20 years?

I like contrast .......to the point of therapy . If the box was black then the bolts that hold it on cant be . I dont get peeps who spend a mint on an engine and then spray the whole assy one colour.......maybe in a marine enviro , or heavy industry for corrosion protection but not a car engine.
