rear quarter window sealing
Hi,
Can anyone share pics or info on how their Mk3 rear quarter light windows are sealed, the type that do not open. Mine seem to be bonded in and then there is a gap on the outside face where the plastic strip does not meet the glass, is this normal, can water get into the car, etc

Re: rear quarter window sealing
My rear windows are held in with some black sticky shit that we dont touch. Everybody that got in the back seat left with a bit on their elbow . I thinks the sealant is degrading ( its almost liquid ) and is on the list of things to fix
Sometimes I talk to myself ... and we both have a good laugh

Hi mate,
Mine are the same, although the gap seems to get bigger as the outer strip gets closer to where it meets the door strip, always wondered why the area beneath there goes rusty, the area where the rear quarter meets the top of the outer sill just below the side moulding rubbers if the car has them.

That’s normal as the door card at the rear looks like it’s not in place right but remember that on my old laser what was only 2 years old when I got her
I will have a look if I have a picture

Re: rear quarter window sealing
Hi all
mine is stuck in with the black sealant and like Mr B, the plastic trim on the outside touches the glass at the back but has about a 5 mm gap at the front where it joins the vertical trim. just looks like somethings missing but maybe this is another one of those Ford designs that we need to over look. What really concerns me is where is the water that runs down the window ending up if the glass is not sealed on the outside face.

Re: rear quarter window sealing
I am not to sure what you mean there’s a video on mine on you tube that shows down the side window but I don’t have any good close up pictures looking down . Have you got any pictures ?
I know they always look odd as the one with windows that open have a separate frame that’s welded in as Pinto Nick has them fitted to B112 which was done when she was restored as it’s a big job .

Hi Mark,
Nice to hear from you again, is this for the XR4 or have you bought another Capri?
Andrew.

Re: rear quarter window sealing
Here's the photo of Mark's rear window trim.
Hopefully somebody will be able to tell if all fixed rear windows are the same or if something is amiss.
Andrew.

Re: rear quarter window sealing
Doesn't look like the trim is properly fitted, it has a kink in it?. Might even be the upright trim is not right. This is mine

Re: rear quarter window sealing
Here are the photos Mark sent me of his stunning new Capri. Just have a look at this beauty...
If you thought the underside wouldn't be finished to the same high standard, well, you'd be wrong.

Re: rear quarter window sealing
I will take a closer look at it now I know nothing is missing, how does that trim come off? Will also check that the window is set in even depth of sealant all way on, I know Chris who restored the car left it alone as it was sealed so its not leaking, just the gap spoils the look of the car.
Any advice on how to get the trim off welcome
Thanks
Mark

Re: rear quarter window sealing
Your lower trim looks straight on the bottom edge and lines up with the door trim so I think the problem is the upright on the door pillar is not fitted properly and that is causing the kink in the window surround trim
