There are a few choices ,depending on wether you still have points , off road vehicle (epoxy filled coil for rough treatment ) ? ballast or not ? and where you buy from but generally bosch msd or ngk are a good bet . πŸ˜€

Simply pop into your local Ford dealership and produce the warranty card, receipts and service book for the correct replacement coil for your vehicle.

I`ve used one of these as I suspected I was getting a bit of tracking down the `tower` of the original 36 y.o. one. I`m sure there are any number of coils will do the job, but I can vouch for this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1

(As Hamish pointed out, this would be for a points based, ballasted set up)

Lucas. Can you see any of the text, should say 12v or 6v: ballast, non-ballast? Or check the voltage across th LT terminals?

If it`s any help, the 2 round plugs are the original fittings, the spade connectors have been added bt a previous owner (maybe a cut-out switch shorting the coil  :!: ) The voltage may be stamped on the bottom surface.

edit: just saw ur post. In that case, the coil I got from Amazon will just slot in. Assuming you`re sure it IS the coil? Those 2 spade connectors look ominous, where do they go? Can you get rid of them?

They look like they go into the distributor, so my guess is maybe you don't have points, but one of the newer self-contained electronic set ups?

I got a Lucas DLB 120 on mine. The car is bog standard and the coil seems fine.

Alright I guess I'll play safe and just get the same one just wasn't sure if it was worth seeing if anyone found other ones better that would fit what I have 😊

Do you have an electronic ignition in that instead of points?
I fitted an Aldon kit years ago and fitted a flamethrower coil at the same time

Under your distributor cap there should be a set of points and a condenser on the outside ?
But now worried why your looking for a coil as you must have a fault ?

What’s wrong with your Capri then ?

Update
You have electronic ignition in that picture so yes a new coil is needed not sure about the wiring , did you fit the electronic ignition ?

Seems unlikely Jason if he's not sure of the difference!
I asked because the wiring and lack of condenser looked like it was electronic so possibly a dedicated coil for electronic might be a better option, depending on the problem of course.

Just starting to take a few turns to start over recently so wasn't sure if the coil might be on its way out. The leads and plugs all look recent just not the coil
