How Much Is Car Tax?

Anyone know how to find out how much tax is on a car? For example if you are looking to buy a car and want to know how much the tax is, is there somewhere you can enter the reg and find out? Everything I've looked at seems to give emissions details, tax bands, figures, but if you don't know these then I don't understand how you find out the cost.

Paul try this mate. Just give the make, model and year and it shows the tax prices. Just tried it for a 1984 Ford Capri and it was spot on. Hope this helps and this is what you meant by getting the tax cost

Yeah the emission shite isn’t applicable to our cars and any built before 2001. It’s a flat rate system based on engine size , a 2.8i is £270 pa

I was asking to determine the rates on other cars, not Capri related. Incredibly hard to figure out, but the link which Nick gave is great.
