Evening all,

Almost finished installing an Edelbrock carburetor on my 3 litre Essex engine, just need to adapt an accelerator cable to match the Capri pedal to the Edelbrock linkage, can anyone tell me what Capri had the longest accelerator cable, I'm thinking it's the 2.8i but I'm not totally sure tbh.

Also can anyone recommend a decent brand of engine paint please.

Cheers guys

Wayne

Regarding the paint, it’s all in the prep. Give the block and anything else you’re painting a thorough clean and degrease and then prime it (I’ve found etch primer works fine on engines, U-POL is a brand I use). With the right prep any engine/high temp paint should be fine, I don’t paint the heads and rest of the engine doesn’t actually get that hot. There probably is a product suitable for use on heads these days, I’ve just never bothered to look!

Thanks for the replies gent's, great information as ever, it's much appreciated.

A mate of mine has just suggested stove paint for the cylinder heads, any thoughts?

If you’re going to paint them I’d just use the same method as the block, you may well find it works ok. I’ve just never bothered painting them but actually I’d like to paint the heads off my Sierra as it’s a full resto so I’d be interested to see how successful it is (not using you as a Guinea pig honest!).

Your biggest problem will be the exhaust manifold as that gets far, far hotter than any other part, plus the expansion/shrinking, tends to make it tough for any paint to last. Otherwise all the above is good advice.e

Yeah forget painting the exhaust manifolds, it’s ceramic coating or nothing!

I'm not to worried about the exhaust manifolds, I'm just concentrating on the block and cylinder heads at the moment, I literally can't wait to get the engine installed in the car - it's car clinic 3.4 stroker engine and I'm itching to try her out!
