Auto gearbox radiator?

Post by sierra3dr »

Hello all,at last, I'm an owner of a Capri, always wanted one. But I do need to replace the radiator. Is there a huge difference between auto and manual?
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum! :welcome:
I believe that the radiators for cars with auto gearbox also function as an oil cooler for the gearbox oil.
From what I understand, they are very difficult to obtain, it looks like you'll have to get an existing radiator refurbished.
It was discussed on this thread:

No, that's just the name. This forum caters for all models of the Capri.

I have an auto and yes the rad does cool the gearbox oil so you can either get your rad re-cored or get a separate oil cooler, there was a chap I spoke to earlier this year who had an alloy rad made with the right points for the pipes but I can't for the life of me find the name of the company who made it but I recently got a quote from them and it was something in the region of £200-250

Yeh thanks. Having an integral system doesn't come across as not a brilliant design,as you had mentioned this last September.

Haha yes it's not the smartest idea...
Luckily for me I started asking when I noticed it and it hasn't been so desperate that I needed to rush to fix it but I'm planning on getting the alloy rad when I have to stop spending on everything else!

Most car accessory /parts shops will have a kit to install external trans coolers , and from what I have heard a bit more cooling capacity doesn't hurt, specially if you have a lead foot or tow a trailer . Personally I would change it to a t9 5 speed :xd: .
