Hi All.

One of my genuine Ford Capri 2.8i mudflaps has started to split.
Getting a replacement is unlikely so, has anyone attempted successfully to glue a mudflap that has split?
If so, what with?

Regards
Dave

Dave , once the rubber has deteriorated to the point that it has split .....I don't think there is much you can do . Any repair should be considered temporary . Is there any way ( depends on where the crack is ) that you could get a bit of stainless sheet that could be made to look like a custom bracket and support/cover the crack? :)

Hi Mc Tool.
Thanks for replying.
Yes, I was thinking along the same lines as you – some sort of plate or sheet to cover the split.
That is my Plan B.
Plan C is to buy 2 matching OEM products from ebay (without the Ford insignia).
However, first I thought someone out there may just have tried glueing the split with one of the Super glue gels or a strong contact adhesive or w.h.y – with or without success.

I suppose depending on how thick the rubber is, you could drill 2-3mm diameter holes in each side of the split, as many as possible and matching side to side. You could possibly then `pin` the 2 sides together with, ideally, small rollers out of a needle roller bearing, or thick wire, and epoxy? It would depend on the thickness etc of the rubber. A plate behind, as mentioned, would be good too.
