2.0l block 1.6l head

Hey team

Doing a 2.0l block 1.6l head project

Got her running but she's not running the greatest getting some back firing out of the carb, have to slowly apply some throttle otherwise she dies.

Is this a timing issue, who's done this engine build before and what needs to be done, I do have 2 different cam pulleys that have offset teeth what one do I use any helps appreciated

Would this swap need verniers to retard or advance the cams?
