Correct colours
Not aiming for concours, but want my Capri close to original. What colours would the rear drums and manifold have been from the factory on a 1986 2.0 Laser?
I'm convinced the drums were a gun meal grey, but according to other sources they were a satin black? but definitely feel the manifold was a gun metal grey when straight out of the wrapper. Any help appreciated.

Re: Correct colours
I'm pretty sure the drums were satin black - but only one thin coat applied!
New manifolds weren't painted, just a light grey colouring to the surface which went rusty after a month or two anyway.

Re: Correct colours
I`d second that, I`ve had from new and the drums had a very thin coat of matt/satin black. Getting anything to stick to the manifold for any period of time is very difficult though, the fact it`s got 30 years of corrosion plus the heat. Apparently some people find B&Q BBQ paint works? Grey woud be accurate.

Re: Correct colours
You can get all sorts of high temperature paint, I got a cheapy one that was good up to 350degrees (apparently) but in my experience the manifold has been the hardest thing to keep the paint on as it gets much hotter than the rest of e car
If you wanted to Karius still make the original spec systems if you wanted new ones - cheap too

Re: Correct colours
A chap at the CCI Nationals had used stove paint on his manifold, that looked good and the paint had adhered well. Stove paint should be good for up to 600 degrees.
For the ultimate long-lasting coating you can have the manifold ceramic coated. Andrew (arnoldhar) has had his done and it looks superb.

Should have had my Sportex manifolds ceramic coated before they were fitted. I had long enough to get them done just didn't think of it at the timeAndrew 2.8i wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 1:33 pm A chap at the CCI Nationals had used stove paint on his manifold, that looked good and the paint had adhered well. Re: Correct colours
I think the time to have it done is when the manifolds are new.
I borrowed Andrew's photo of his manifold:

Doesn't it look fantastic?

Re: Correct colours
Hi,
There might be a sticker under the boot floor with the name of the colour.
Alternatively, post a photo of the car on here and somebody will be able to tell you what colour it is.
I think it might be either Mineral or Cobalt blue.
Andrew.
Re: Correct colours
Just off the top of my head it`s not S 5 is it, as I`m sure mineral Blue is something like that?
(Edit: just checked and Mineral is s3. Sorry!)

Re: Correct colours
Don't think its Cobalt blue, think that only had a limited run for 6 months or so in 1981.
Re: Correct colours
I thought it was a later colour but you are right it's early 80's.Lord Flasheart wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 12:30 pm Don't think its Cobalt blue, think that only had a limited run for 6 months or so in 1981.
Probably Mineral or Caspian then.
