Pinto Exhaust Recommendation?

Post by Cosmicbike »

I'm sick of it already. The car has a 3" dustbin sticking out the back and it's horrid, and at 50mph the drone is very annoying. Since the car will stay with a pinto lump (currently 1600, may change to 2ltr), I'm after a sensible replacement. Happy to go right through and include a tubular manifold too. So far seen the Sportex 2" system which looks OK, also CCI do one (is it the same?)

What do other use, and suppliers please.

If you go for a Sportex, I can highly recommend this seller!

I'd stick with a completely standard exhaust. About £90 for a full system delivered including all brackets. Klarius, excellent sound/tone they give out.

Also, yes CCI kit and Sportex are identical

PS - what's so bad about a 3" exhaust...

 you what Nick?? Can't hear you mate!!

I wanted to have the whole exhaust ready in stainless for the ace but I'm quickly running out of time and it's not that high up the list as everything else keeps breaking before I get a chance

Thanks folks, I quite like the sound and look of the CCI/Sportex, so I'll add it to the shopping list.4

With the entire interior stripped out it's really not nice to drive, and the noise is irritating. I had similar on my old Mk1 Sierra and it was terrible trying to do any motorway distance.

I read that earlier today - not a bad idea, but slightly ridiculous to be set at 74dB?

Found a list of comparable noises and how loud they are:

Passenger car at 65 mph at 25 ft (77 dB); Living room music (76 dB); radio or TV-audio, vacuum cleaner (70 dB).

Edit: Also apparently the average volume of speech between two people is 50-60 decibels

There was a saying that loud pipes save lives.
If your exhaust is road legal I can't see the problem. If you are using a race/track or deliberatly modified loud exhaust then you deserve it.

Will MOT stations have to use a db tester if they are in doubt?

The faster a vehicle is going to higher the db, so as with most laws it depends on how unlucky you are to get caught.

When electric cars are that commonplace that pedestrians and cyclists are having accidents because they can't hear the cars around them, they will actually be adding noise to cars.

:agree:
Currently a louder vehicle makes you aware they are around, but there is a fine line between loud and too loud.

Those that are in the latter group, it may well encourage them to slow down in fear of being caught.

74db is ridiculously quiet. Apparently my lawnmower is 90db!
