Leaking Rocker Cover

Post by martin l »

Can anyone help me please.
I have a leaking rocker cover on my 2 litre Ford Capri Mark 3 1984 and want to know where I could get a replacement. I also need a new oil filter and what brand is recommended for this. I look forward to hearing from you.

Is the rocker cover at fault or does it just need a new gasket - that tends to be the usual issue

Hi Martin,
I hope you are well and :welcome: to the forum.
I use and recommend genuine Ford EFL90 filters. You should be able to get one from your local Ford dealer, to make it easy the reference number (FINIS) is 1555451.

Andrew.

Currently full up and no more space but I still want a 2.8...

First change would be the gasket - much cheaper at a few quid rather than a whole new cover! :)

Capri Club sell the gasket and oil filter for a relatively reasonable price, or carparts4less do super cheap ones!

worth bearing in mind there are 2 different pinto rocker covers, one has a narrow gasket, the other a wide gasket. The wide will fit the narrow with some trimming.

Rocker covers tend to leak if you overtighten the 10 securing bolts, they need very little torque applied. Over-tightening mis-shapes the area around the bolt head which makes it leak. I had to apply a gentle hammer to straighten mine out when I rebuilt the head, it's now nicely leak free.

Use new gaskets with some rubberized sealant, nip the fastners, allow the sealant to cure 24 hours then retighten the fixings

Standard cork gasket works for me, seem to last years.

And a Bosch oil filter from CarParts4Less, used those for my last several oil changes.
