Textured paint finish effect of lower body panels

Post by Brooksy »

Just wondered if anyone out there knows how to recreate the dimpled factory paint finish of the Mk3 lower section body panels? (ie, below the rubbing strip of a laser). The factory finish appears to be some sort of stone chip undercoat but it doesn't appear to be flexible or waxoyl based.
I'm just curious in case I ever have to repair or replace lower sections in the future. Cheers.

I always thought it was stonechip. But what a great question, would be very handy to know for sure.

There are some off the shelf products, such as Waxoyl Stonechip etc. However, the wording states that the product remains flexible, which doesn't sound suitable.

Me too!
Sure the front and possibly rear valance used to be stonechip even if the sides weren't :headscratch:

Don't know if Shutz its a generic term but when we did Biscuit, we used this kind of thing, applied using an air spray gun. Used on the lower panels & the whole of the underneath from memory

I can find out what we actually used if that would help ?

OK, Shutz is a bitumen type underseal & the work of the devil DO NOT USE IT :D

This is the stuff to use

https://www.u-pol.com/uk/en-uk/product/ ... O5OF3dFzIU

We used this on the lower panels & all of the underneath of the car, it is also very receptive to painting over the top with your desired body colour, we used the grey colour & painted cobalt blue over the top on Biscuit.

Hope this helps ;)
