Okay guys. I’ve read every post on this and the guide page. I’m stumped. Looking to remove the so called retaining pin. A small round pin that I can just get at with pliers from the top where the reservoir was? I did as described using a screwdrive. I have tried every angle and pushing the piston in slowly. I can’t see any pin?
Please help. I’m going mad.

Re: Master cylinder strip
You need to take the brake fluid reservoir off, it's hidden under there
Re: Master cylinder strip
I have the reservoir off. The two rubber seals removed. Each of these has two very small holes inside. No sign of a pin. I can hear something like a retaining pin rattling inside.

Not all cylinders have that retaining pin (and yours may already be an after market part ),some have a small screw . Some have an internal circlip at the open end of the cylinder that holds all the stuffing in.
