Apologies but looking for some guidance on the well used topic.

So Capri 280 37k from new due to the fact it had a rest in the garage for many years unused fuel went off etc. Now although it has been on the road for 3 yrs now it is not a fan of starting from cold and need to warm through before able to drive it, when its then sort of OK but not perfect.NB in terms of cold start it fires instantly but only runs fo r2-3 seconds as revs drop away.

Anyway so everything points to good old WUR, therefore removed and taken apart, perfectly clean inside, diaphragm intact (though O ring looks quite flat) 24 ohm resistance on the strip and the gauge filter clear....

looked at various forums for other marques that use the similar WUR and this on but the one thing that is never mentioned is the brass encased switch/button on the bottom of the unit that seems to press against the smaller inner spring?

My concern is that whatever this part is it just rattles up and down whilst the WUR is stripped which doesn't feel like the right thing or is it?

Would appreciate some guidance on this, expected to find a mess but quite the opposite so running out of ideas

The 'button' at the bottom is attached to a rubber diaphragm. It should move up and down by only a couple of mm. Normally it is lifted by the vacuum created from the rubber pipe on the top. If yours is literally rattling it sounds like the diaphragm is split. I'm not sure you can get this part so a replacement WUR would be necessary.

Thanks Peter had forgotten the unit operates with the vacuum in addition.

The only two "reconditioners" i know of are KMI and Tickover so i guess i will need to send it off to be sorted then.

I used KMI, they do a lot of these units, i went to their workshop, very professional, do WURs for all sorts of cars. I think tickover just send them to KMI as well

Thanks Brooky unfortunately KMI say they aren't accepting any more orders until mid-June due to full order book an impending workshop move...

Wondered if any members know of a decent K-Jet specialist in the North West as may be worth getting the system checked before expensive re-furbs on the off chance?

I got a replacement diaphragm a few years ago from this company http://www.k-jet.biz/ They have all sorts of parts for the K-Jet. From rebuild kits to completed rebuilds. They are in Australia though, not the UK.
A lot of good info on there website as well. Could also be worth giving them a ring maybe.
