I have a Ford Capri 2.8I, 1986 which has been running warm, today I changed the thermostat and it seems to be running even warmer now! My question is; does the rubber seal go into the recess on the water pump housing first followed by the thermostat or does the thermostat go into the recess and the rubber seal go on after between the gasket and housing?

Ive got a Borg and Beck BT044 thermostat in now but been told I need one that opens at 82 degrees. Any idea where I can get one?

I stock the correct 82 degree thermostats.

The rubber seal goes between the housing and the thermostat.

You could test your thermostat by using a saucepan, or similar container, filled with cold water, in which the thermostat is suspended e.g. on wire. (Don’t allow the thermostat to touch the bottom or sides of the container).
Gently heat the water while monitoring the temperature with a thermometer. You can then check at which temperature the thermostat opens.
(I use a single camping gas cooker for this.)

To clarify are you saying fit the thermostat and then the rubber seal and fit the housing?
