3.0S Interior trim/wiring

Post by D366Y »

Morning all!

Just a quick one about what should/shouldn't be on the interior of a 3.0S...?

I pulled the dash out the other day and found a mess of wires where one of the many previous owners has decided to try and replicate a bowl of spaghetti behind the dash!

I've tried to do some research online about what speakers were fitted as standard (one in the dash? Two in the front doors? Two in the parcel shelf holders?) but can't find anything about it and also no wiring diagrams for the speakers in the Haynes, or any reference to the fader that is under the dash so don't know how to tell what speakers I should have where and should I have a fader somewhere??

Any help would be great, and in the meantime I'm going to try and figure out what the hell the rest of the wires for what appear to be some sort of shoddy aftermarket alarm are doing - there are more relays hacked in there than the Olympics!!

Cheers
Danny

Danny, the S models were very basic - really just a performance "L" model. Front door speakers weren't fitted to them and nor was the fader. They just had a push button radio with the dashboard speaker but other speakers obviously can and probably been retro-fitted.

Thanks Paul - currently sat in the office at work trying to figure it all out ready for when I get some free time!
Will have to try and source a front speaker then I think as it currently has two in the front door cards - which are strobe door cards anyway, I need to get on and find me some tartan!

Speaking of which - did different colours have different headlining of was every car issued with beige headlining...??

Cheers

As far as I know all S models had the beige "Moonstone Putty" headlining. Mine does and even my !984 one does. The door cards should be plain black vinyl (no carpet ) with a thin chrome strip - again a' la L model.

Come and look at mine if you want to get an idea. Might even motivate me to do something to it this year!

Hi Danny,

Congratulations on your latest purchase fella. Nice one!!! Now I noticed you said that this has the Laser door cards. So here is the info from the sales brochure for the Capri S which had the Laser interior with the 4 Spoke RS alloys. might be of some help??? Best of luck with the project,

And as Paul says, this is based on the L, so here are the L specs for this year (again I think??), hope they help also??? This was my misspent youth, going round the Ford show rooms looking at the cars I couldn't afford.... Doh!!!

Excellent info there but isn't yours a 3.0 ?

That brochure is for the later model range when the 2.8's replaced the 3.0 & the range was trimmed from the previous L, GL, S & Ghia etc or did I misunderstand what you were after ?

Mine is a 3.0 - I've just realised what you mean about John's brochure but wasn't the info for the 2.0S the same as the 3.0S apart from engine size? If so that's good enough for me to use as I just wanted an idea of what the interior should look like really

From what I've seen, the 3.0S had beige headlining, black vinyl door cards with the chrome trim, black or brown carpets and either black or brown fishnet recaros or roll top seats with standard headrests, in various coloured carla check material. Either radios varied slightly over the years or owners have upgraded with other Capri radio/cassettes...

Sorry about that, well spotted Lord Flasheart.... It’s all in the detail... I was only One Thousand cc’s out.....

Still, best of luck Danny, looking forward to seeing the finished car, cheers,

John....

Evening all, glad I wasn't going completely doolally :D & had not intended to pee on anyones parade ;)

Don't know if this link works without having to log onto Capri Power, mine is a March 81 3.0 Ghia so I bought the January, February & March brochures off eBay when I bought the car 5 years ago this month !!!!!

Anyway, I scanned the trim & paint options for February 81 & Fran (Laser) uploaded them to CP for ref, hope it works / helps, scroll down past the August images to the Feb issue stuff

http://www.capripower.co.uk/forum/index ... 1981.1390/

If you cant see it, maybe some kind soul can copy it to here also ?

Let me know if you want me to scan & e-mail anything from the brochure's ;)
