Help buying 2.8

Post by Bakes07 »

Hi guys.

This is my first post so any help would be appreciated.

I having been looking for a while now for a nice late Capri but most cars seem to have had 15 owners no history and badly looked after. I know this is a old car and what to expect but finding a good one seems difficult.

I have however seen a couple going through Auction which look good but am nervous of the whole auction thing then driving home.

There is a nice Paris blue 2.8 and a Brooklands going through CCA auctions on the 1st December which look nice examples.

Does anyone know about those cars or have any advice.

Thanks in advance

:welcome: Paul.
I assume you want a 2.8 Special or 280 if you are looking for a later car?
I would rather buy from a fixed price dealer or private sale...Auctions could cost you over the odds if you get into a bidding war.

The amount of owners wouldn't bother me too much, as with most older Fords rust is your main concern, so make sure you check any car.

Plenty of helpful people on here who can advise you, maybe put up a link to anything you like and someone may know the car...

Andy thanks for the reply. Yes I agree the Paris blue car just caught my eye with sensible owners and condition and half of me thinks December is usually quiet for classics with the man in the red suit around the corner.

Who knows the search continues.

Cheers.

At least £15000 I reckon, you might get a bargain as it's December...But remember the Auction fees!!

Hi I know where there are a couple of Capri 2.8 injection's for sale but aren't on the market yet. If you are genuine send me a PM and I'll give you the details on them. The only thing is they aren't late ones. One is a A reg the other a B reg. They are both really nice genuine low mileage examples and not silly money.

Cheers

A good friend of mine has a really nice Black A plate car that he's selling, I think he's only the second or third owner, original spec. If you're interested, PM me your contact number and I'll pass it onto him.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the help and replies. I would definitely consider looking at a early car if it was right.

I think the blue car attracted me because the miles owners history were all nice plus a little restoration being done. Ticks a lot of boxes.

I think the last two cars I looked at have had a negative effect being a total loss and owner not admitting it and then 18 owners for another.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Sorry I did look at the black one on eBay but with no history it also looks very cheap in the market which made me nervous.

Just hpi the black one it shows up previously stolen.

Not sure how that affect it 25 years on.

Depends on your budget, although all good 2.8's are now within a certain price bracket. Best to keep your options open :)

I expect insurers would still have an issue :spank:

Thanks Andy just saw a nice one on autotrader so may consider that. Prices seem to be all over the place at the minute.
