Hey guys, it’s that time of year again! Those long cold nights in the garage are raining in!!
I’ve been thinking of late about what to do with my 1.6 Laser.
She’s currently in a completely dismantled state for those who are not aware

After being at the NEC this weekend and gawping over some of the Capris from CCI and other clubs and speaking to one or two people I’ve come to a difficult decisison.
So..
I have a 1.6 pinto, but I also have a 2.0 205 block pinto.
I would like to keep it completely original and have been told it would be great to see it original as you don’t seem to see many people around with 1.6’s that haven’t been converted to 2.0’s.
But. Can i gain much more power/performance from a 1.6 or should I look to upgrade to the 2.0
What to do with my Laser?

2ltr cam, 32/36 dgav Weber, decent exhaust and manifold......and your 1.6 will out perform a std 2 litre. Beyond that, you need to start with your 205 block 2 litre and go from there

This is exactly what I've done on my 1.6, had it rolling - roaded and was pushing 103bhp so well worth it!340truck wrote:2ltr cam, 32/36 dgav Weber, decent exhaust and manifold......and your 1.6 will out perform a std 2 litre. Re: What to do with my Laser?
Sweet! That’s actuslly quite doable as I already have a 2.0 cam and that carb to hand!!
What exactly is required to change the cam over or is it a simple replacement?
Many thanks!

As far as I know its just a straight swap, set the valve gaps and you're away - but don't take my word for itsparks wrote:Sweet! That’s actuslly quite doable as I already have a 2.0 cam and that carb to hand!!

Re: What to do with my Laser?
That's the same set up on my 1.6 pinto thanks to Dave "340truck" who built the engine a few years ago. I'm planning on purchasing a 4:2:1 manifold and system next year to go on it.
