Post by 3000GT »

I´m from Denmark and own a Capri 3000GT from 1970. I cannot figure out how to read my data plate, and cannot really find the infos, I need. There is alot German data-plates on the net, but not really UK ones, that look like mine, Can anybody help me ? The top line says: 2 H 5 R D715
Middle line is the vin: BBECKP69828. Buttom line only says A2

Hi,

I recently purchased a book called “Factory Original Ford Capri mk1” and there is a section covering the VIN plates.

If yours is a Uk vehicle then 2 in the top line means RHD (after August 1970) otherwise it would mean LHD before that date.

H = 3000, 5 = manual gearbox, R = 3.22:1 standard axle, D715 denotes trim but there is nothing listed for 715, the chart I have ranges from 458 to 507.

Middle line;

B = built in Britain
B = built at Halewood plant
E= Capri
C = two door body / coupe
K = calendar year of build (not model year) K= 1970
P= month of build P = August

69828 is the serial number (00001 to 99999)

A2 = paint code; in your case A2 is Saluki Bronze metallic paint.

Hope this helps and is right!

Have you tried contacting or joining the caprimk1ownersclub as they would be able to verify your VIN, plus they keep a register of cars remaining, which I’m sure with yours originally a Uk car, they’d be keen to know about.

Regards,

Pas.

Sorry A2 can also be Silver Fox metallic paint colour!!

It is very confusing but I’d recommend the book anyway

I’ve had another look and there is no mention about vinyl roof codes.

Like I mentioned earlier if you contact the mk1 owners club, I think they’d give you a more accurate interpretation of your vin!

There was plenty of optional extras available to the mk1 which makes things even more confusing.
If you had the original bill of sale it would help you further!

According to the book the A2 is colour only.
