Automatic Radiator

Long shot and I think I know the answer, but does anyone know of where I might find a pinto radiator for an automatic? They have the valves in the bottom to cool the gearbox oil, but its currently looking like my only option is to re-core it instead which is mildly annoying as the car will have to be off the road for a period of time while it's being done...

Thanks!

Is that where all the sprayed out oil was coming from?

Tickover do a 3.0 auto rad

But I don’t know if it will fit but in picture you can see the in - out pipes go ?

Hi Paul, no it wasn't - I've updated where the leak was coming from in my 'members cars' section, but the radiator core started to fall apart when i took it out to start fixing the actual problem!

Thanks for this jason, I looked earlier but it seems to be an exchange service so would have to send one in to get one back, not sure they would accept a pinto one to send a new one back?? Also not sure if the fitment would be the same for a 3.0?

The more time I spend (fruitlessly) looking for an auto rad the more I'm thinking that I'll need to just re-core :(

Could a standard radiator be fitted and the transmission fluid instead just piped to a small separate oil cooler rad ?

I was toying with this option as well, but wouldn't really know where to fit another mini cooling rad without bastardising the bodywork/engine bay as I'm trying to keep it as original as possible considering there don't seem to be many GL Autos left

Funny I was also looking at that as there is a couple of options but you would still need to flow it threw the rad ?

Apparently so, the gearbox oil runs through the bottom of the rad (no idea why this was considered a good idea) to cool it

Might be worth sticking a post in 'for sale/wanted' if you haven't already. Either that or try contacting Martin (Capri Gear), Johnocapriman, Tickover etc? I did take an auto rad off my capri but not sure if I still have it. Will have a look, but it's not in the best condition even if I do have it.

I've PM'ed Martin, Tickover don't make/supply them and nor do CCI :(

Looking more and more like I'll have to get it re-cored but thanks for thinking JC

Cheers

I don't know if you're sorted yet but I was looking on google for you and there is a car radiator reconditioner in Slough. Auto Radiators, 72 Salisbury Avenue, Slough, Tel 01753 694223. They might be able to re-core the rad for you and it's reasonably local.

If they're any good I've got a couple that need doing.

Cheers Paul, I made four calls yesterday, first place wanted £235! Another place wanted £185, another £174 and Martin suggested Boston Motorcool who charge £145 which includes him posting it back to me which is the best one yet. Will try calling Auto Radiators today and see what they say.
