capri laser 1985 1.6 nimbus grey
ford capri laser 1985 , 60,000 miles full service history , mot to back up , its done 750 miles in 12 years . I'm going through it , it hold the revs about 2000-2500 , blip throttle goes back ok , cuts out sometimes, smooth when u give it gas , and let throttle off , full gas fine , ultrasonicly cleaned cab , new kit , its a weber 34ich , throttle not sticking , can it be vacum related?? , many thanks

if it's idling at 2500 revs you must have the throttle cable too tight or there is a bad air leak somewhere. Is choke turning off OK?

Throttle cable if fully closed off on the stop, choke is fully off, tick over fine , throttle is clear when reving , air leak from where is the question , or the million dollar question

Just to add to that , tick over is normal 900rpm , when it is warm, u come so a stop , 20% of the time when u put your foot on the clutch the revs hold higher 2000-2500 , 80% of the time it comes back down to 900rpm

Re: capri laser 1985 1.6 nimbus grey
Got to be something sticking....the airflow required to hold the revs at 2500 can't be an air leak below the fuel jet, there wouldn't be enough fuel to keep them that high.
Check the ignition timing with a strobe, especially watch the advance and retard as you rev it. Would be very unusual but it's possible the vacuum or mechanical advance is sticking. Unlikely to keep the revs that high for a sustained period though, as I say there isn't enough fuel through the idle jet to keep them high.
Much more likely the throttle is sticking open, this would explain why the "blip" clears it.

Is the choke flap tight on the spindle? It could rub a little if not

Thankyou to everyone for there help, at the side of the carb it has the return springs, when it was cold it was fine , but when it got running and hot they would cramp up and hold it tight , so a bit more room was needed, step by step we move forward, many thanks again , now i need to look at the lights as only one comes on, and by the way are you suposed to be able to turn the lights on with no key in the ignition , i think not BUT..........

Thanks for posting the solution, always nice when people do that. The lights will come on at the first position, with no key.Kristian buller wrote:Thankyou to everyone for there help, at the side of the carb it has the return springs, when it was cold it was fine , but when it got running and hot they would cramp up and hold it tight , so a bit more room was needed, step by step we move forward, many thanks again , now i need to look at the lights as only one comes on, and by the way are you suposed to be able to turn the lights on with no key in the ignition , i think not BUT..........

With lights, so long as your bulbs are OK then earths will be the problem in 99% of cases. Clean and check the two earths in the back of the headlight bowls and check the fuses are clean under the headlight relay.

Right i have just taken the relay box off with the 4 fusses on it, it was a bit carodid , i took the metal case off and fixed it back on the car , one side worked ok , and the other did not , if i manuly flicked the relay the full beam would then appear, i guess its had it , does anyone now what the flat tab sticking out the bottom of the relay box , is it just nothing , i guess universal
