Ballast Resistor

Post by flyingdragon »

Have i got a Ballast Resistor on a 1969 Capri 1600 GT. If so, where is it hidden.I have electronic ignition fitted, but on tickover after 5 mins car will start to misfire and cut out. If i put direct 12 volts from battery car ticks over fine

If you can’t see it then possibly not as some electronic ignition systems don’t require one at all if I remember correctly. Also, (if my memory serves me correctly - it’s years since I played with Capris!) some electronic setups require a higher capacity coil so it may be worth looking at that too.

So bypass the ballast wire and use a 12v coil may be the easiest solution(?)

On later models the ballast resistor is built into the loom where it runs across the bulkhead. Thicker than the other wires.
