The Ford Capri Laser Page

I'm currently restoring my Capri 280,I've now decided to remove the engine and give it a good clean up and paint it.Just wondering if anyone else has done this recently and can recommend some really good high temperature paint? It's been painted before(in grey),Im not sure whether the Cologne engines were originally painted in matt grey or were they in more of a silver colour? I've also treated myself to a new stainless steel Janspeed exhaust.I've kept the original manifolds,I'm having these cleaned but I'm unsure what colour to paint them,perhaps satin black or silver,what do you guys think??

I've always steered clear of painting the manifolds as I've never had much luck with it. Always seems to flake off after a while.

Sorry to jump in as I have always looked at my manifold and never had luck years ago getting paint to stick . But I watched a wheeler dearlers once ( wished I knew what one ) and they dipped the manifold in some high heat ceramics type paint . What looked good but was half a sleep at the time and never seen that show again .

As wrapping kills them really quick as we have been down this road before .

That show was repeated on Quest either yesterday or the day before. I wasn't paying much attention and can't remember what car the manifold was from. Sorry!

Yes that is what happens to me as at the time I was not really taking much notice then only hours later my mind woke up and thought blast what did he use . Mr Brewer can be a little , let’s say to much sometime as I really watch it for Edd .

Just remembered the car in the WD episode that had the manifold ceramic coated, it was the green Jaguar XJ coupe.

How did you remember that and yes your right as you see them put the manifold on at the start .

When I am home I will have to watch and see where they get it done as it helps keeping the Engine bay cooler with the looks .

Can't remember who but someone once told me that BBQ paint works better than heat resistant paint.. worth a look at!

I believe this is the company refered to www.zircotec.com, I used them for my manifold

It’s ceramic coating or nothing; paint is a waste of time on manifolds. And cylinder heads in my experience....

I now remember you saying you had this done . ( my mind ) have you got a picture as I have been looking at the ones you sent me again ( stunning car ) but can not see the Mainfold with the coating .

Also sorry to many questions does it feel cooler under the hood ? Does sound a daft question with the heat we having at the moment but reading the blurb they have on the web site it does say you can feel the difference .

Don't ask how much but these are ceramic coated and going on my 2.8 build be Interesting to see how long they last..

All that’s great you can be our main review or guinea pig . Did you have both the inside and outside coated ? Also I do have a laser remote temperature gun that you point the light on a get a reading as they are saying it can reduce the heat up to 50% what is a good thing to do also all F1 cars and high end sports car have .

You must let us all know what the car feels like after you have fitted . Yes it may have been a lot of penny’s let say but the exhaust will and should last longer give you better MPG & BHP and also keep the heat away from the engine .

They look so nice and should always stay that way .

Jason / Andrew in my view it’s the best coating you can get but it’s not cheap for my cast lump of iron I think it was about £300 they used to list prices on their web site, anyway I had mind done in silver to off set the black. I will post a photo later as not near a pc at the moment and I can’t answer the running cooler question as I think I had the same treatment done in 1990 or something very similar and that lasted until I did it again 3 years ago. It just had a few little rust spots appearing and it’s only done on the inside

That heat shield is so fine and I remember my grandad having a 6 month old 2.0 cortina and the heatshild had rusted on the bolt area that quick that it made a right noise . So to a test of time it’s done so well and looks so new .

This looks like another job I will be adding to my list but do I use my old mainfold or buy a new one ?

Jason, that’s my original manifold, so they do clean up ok, no chance of that rusting through, it must be 20lbs!

Many thanks for the replies much appreciated.Probobly a silly question but as Ive brought a Janspeed stainless steel exhaust I'm just wondering why they don't make the manifolds in stainless steel as well? Have I missed something? I know manifolds get very hot but it seems a bit strange.
