Brake shoes

Just tried fitting some new rear shoes I bought off eBay that were advertised as being the correct ones for my car, however they're completely different from my old ones. They are narrower, and don't even match the circumference of the older ones or the drums themselves. They look like they'd fit on a fiesta or escort or something.
Am I missing something here, has the design changed, or is this just another case if people on eBay who claim to be experts not having a clue?
Cheers.

Have you been sent 1.6 ones in error?

Potentially.... I wasn't aware that they were different but if that's the case then that's likely what's happened. The ad did specify that they were for a 2.0 though so not sure why they'd send the ones for a 1.6. eBay sellers for you I guess lol.

When I bought new shoes they were completely different shapes to my old ones, eventually had to give up myself as I couldn't fight the springs etc. and manage it, dropped it into my local garage and they did it in an hour or two, might be worth taking it to somewhere just to ask their opinion?

Drums from a 2.8 are bigger, yours hasn't been converted has it?

I can't afford to take it anywhere right now as money is tight, my dad was the one who gave me the money for the shoes in the first place so I can't really take it to a garage.
I have no clue if it's been converted to 2.8 ones, though I wouldn't have thought it was as everything on my car was factory spec when I bought it apart from the carburettor. I seriously doubt it is, but how would I be able to tell?

You could measure the size of the brake drums? Pinto ones are both 8inches, 2.8 are 9inches from memory

Cool thanks, I'll do that.

So mk3's had either an 8" or 9" drum? Tickover has them for sale in both sizes, and the little 8" ones look like the ones I've been sent that don't fit.
I'm so confused about this as it's the first time I've heard of it.

Only the 1.6 had the different sizes, 2.0 litre ones were all 9 inch.

Thanks. Yeah honestly judging from all the pictures it looks like someone's put the 2.8i/3.0 ones on mine.
You can see a picture on the OP of one of my old threads here:

Definitely look like the much bigger ones that you put in a 2.8 don't they?
