removing under sealant

hi lads doing a full restoration on one of my capris was just needing to know whats the best way to remove the under sealant from it as i and going to paint it all got it on a roll over jig so can get to every part of it

It's a hateful job which ever way you go about it. I find it's best to heat the underseal with a hot air gun or blowtorch then scrape it off with a wide chisel or paint scraper. Have something like a wet towel handy just in case of it catching fire but if done carefully you should be OK.

When I get on to my 3.0S I'm going to pay the money and get it sandblasted. Others swear by chemical dipping but that gets expensive.

thats what i have been doing but the pannels get very hot ,is there any other way i was thinking of using a Wire Wheel Cup but dont know if it would be to harsh on it,any one tried this way ????

Depends what type and how thick the underseal is. Would probably work on the factory applied stuff but not thick black shutz or stone chip type.

When I did mine, it had factory underseal about a third of the way across the floor from the sill lip inwards. The central third, the transmission / prop shaft tunnel was actually preserved by years of oil leaking & once de-greased revealed the original clean painted floor, no need for heavy duty prep other than usual prep for painting.

For most of it, warming with a heat gun (don't try & melt it, if its smoking its too hot) & follow it with a sharp chisel gets most of it off.

After that I got a 3 inch dia wire wheel on a regular mains powered hand drill & rubbed the remainder & the fiddly bits it off that way. No need for the heat gun when using the wire wheel, best done cold.
Change the direction of the drill every so often as the wire wheels go "handed" after a while, so change the direction on the drill & you will feel it "grip" / become more abrasive again & repeat
