Hi everyone,
currently got the system drained at the moment in my 2.8 and wondered if anyone could recommend what coolant to use to fill it back up.

I've been reading recently about waterless coolant called Sealeys
Looks interesting and something I'm considering doing as well
Apparently it can withstand more extreme temperatures so won't need fiddling with or topping up

Whatever brand you use, make sure that it's the blue stuff not the pink.
Personally I buy 5L of concentrated. I pour half of it into an empty 5L container and fill the remainder of the two bottles with water. Hey presto, an easy way to get 10L of 50% mixed coolant. It should take 8.7L to completely fill the system, so you'll have over a litre of the correct mixture coolant to keep for top ups if necessary.

It does sound like a brilliant product with some amazing benefits, although some would feel that the downside is that it costs £30 for 2 litres. Therefore filling the cooling system will cost £150, plus around £15-20 for the required prep fluid.

I never looked into the cost but that does sound pricey!! Depends how much of a difference it really makes I guess, but I guess not much!

Yeah I've been looking into the waterless stuff over the last couple months, I am tempted but I think I might wait till next year to consider it again.
Anyone got any preference on coolant brands or just go for Halfords?

I believe that the brand doesn't make any difference. I usually buy whatever Eurocarparts or GSF have on the shelf.
It will be interesting to see what difference the waterless coolant makes. I look forward to reading your review a year from now!

Wheeler Dealers used waterless coolant in the TR6 they did.....Sounds good albeit expensive, but if your rad springs a leak it will still run out like the normal coolant

One thing I actually do after reading about it a couple of years back is to mix the concentrate coolant with de-ionised water rather than tap water.

Supposed to help prevent scaling and corrosion. Have been using it ever since.

I love the way that, due to COSSH regulations I assume, Halfords have had to produce a five page safety data sheet.....for water!

Did nick mention Halfords ?
I must change mine next year , yes the waterless system does look good but also a very good price . When the job is done should I get the water pump and thermostat changed ? ( Tickover Job as my back will not be up for this one ) ....

I see the fill with the waterless coolent , I really don’t know as I think we have touch base with this before . I might look in to it and way up the cost as any engine running cooler helps .
When reading on it I understand that all traces of water must be out the system also they take the cap off a hot engine .
I would change the thermostat if I did do this .
Will have a think as it will be a project next year .

So quick update on this as Andrew has got my mind going on night drive , I have been reading and watching linked videos and it look really good but like many things that look to good what is the catch . Well I don’t know one thing is the price so in this week I will try and get a full price on getting my Capri done at two garages near me using this waterless company

It's generally not a great idea, as mixing the two (pink and blue) will give a thick congealed mud. You would need to get rid of all the existing blue which might be difficult.Dreamachine wrote:Why can't you use pink coolant instead of blue
