Hi
Firstly thanks for accepting me! Great forum!
I have a red 1987 2.0 Laser. The paint code code is R5?
I've trawled Google and searched on here and believe it is Rossi red!?
I'll be spraying with a gun and compressor.
The existing base coat on the car is yellow. Pit marks make this apparent and give it a beautiful shadow in the sun as Ferrari red.
My questions are:
Which basecoat code do I need for the yellow?
Is the R5 red paint code correct?
Which clear lacquer do you recommend?
Any advice is welcome on recommendations for paint and lacquer. I normally spray guitars in nitro cellulose. My experience of local auto paint suppliers leave me in doubt as their recommendations have failed more than once.
If you can recommend any reputable suppliers I am all years!!
Cheers

Hi and to the forum.
Firstly its Rosso red and not Rossi (The Doctor). I wouldn't want you getting the wrong colour
When you say yellow base coat I think you are actually talking about the primer they used. Usually with red paint you would use a white primer like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAPCI-1-25LT- ... Sw~e5ZP8GJ, although yellow is also acceptable. You wont get a paint code for primer, its just a paint that adheres to bare metal. When you buy the paint ask the supplier which primer he would suggest.
If you are not going down to bare metal I would suggest you don't need a primer, others on here may disagree but I'm not an expert. I will be spraying some doors for my red Golf soon. They will have to be primed in white first as they are currently black doors and you can't spray red over black.
Edit.... I don't think you need to use lacquer on solid colours just metallic paints.
Post some pictures when you've done it I'd love to see the results

Thanks fella!
Ha ha.. I am aware it's rosso, autocorrects are so annoying... same as mk4 RS and XR3i rosso I'm guessing.
Thanks for the link and advice. I'll be doing the front spoiler first after surface rust patches are no more. So yeah, a primer will be needed for bare metal.
I'll either post a update once it's complete.
Thanks again

Mine is also Rosso Red, and just for info, the off the shelf spray cans from Halfords (Ford Rosso Red) is an incredibly good match!
