converting opening rear windows to fixed rear windows??

Post by seaniow »

getting  some polycarbonate replacement windows coming for the capri...at the moment i have opening rear windows....but the replacement screen has no mounting hole for the catch...i seem to remember that some capris had fixed rear glass...how do i convert mine over to sealed rear windows...?is it just a case of sealing them to the exising rubber seal?....of do they have different mounting brackets...?....cheers...
oh and any pictures would help?

which has fixed rear windows, the glass is simply glued/sealed to the metal work of the car, there no other mount or anything. (there was a strip of dense foam between the rear glass on the metal work dunno if it was orginal or not..

then the outer trim clips/ screws on and the same with the inner....

so basically just glue the glass to the cars body work.- gotta get in the right postion though..Image

not sure if mk1 chrome will fit...

Post by Supercharged Nat »

basically there are 4 or 5 rivits just below the window in the body work, with some sort of clips... the outer trim snaps into these clips...

so youl have to fit these is you want the trim fitted, mk2 chrome will deffo fit a mk3 shell.Image

car with opening rear 1/4s have slightly different metalwork round the window aperture compared to ones that dont open. Basically the non opening windows are bigger than the ones that do. Park a laser next to a 2.8 and you should see what I mean.

The fixed windows are bigger than the opening ones. I had a GL with opening rear windows and you could see the difference next to my laser.

you need to remove the extra metalwork that is welded in place as the fixed windows are bigger. Also, I think the exterior rear trim is different. I'm using laser stuff in my TT as the old opening windows always leaked.Image

Hi There.

I see you are removing the rear windows, is on a Mk1 or Mk2. If its the Mk1 would be verey intersted in buying the Looking leaver hinges and the metal that the rubber mounts on.

Please let me Know
Thanks

With the greatest of respect, as it's been over eleven years since the last post on this thread, you are unlikely to receive a response to your request.

I would suggest that you contact Martin at Caprigear https://www.caprigear.co.uk/ or Capri Club International http://www.capriclub.co.uk/ to see if they have the parts you require. :goodluck:

Andrew.
