Noisy diff

Post by Major_Tom »

..I'm changing the gasket on the diff tomorrow and.. its also noisier than I remember.. very noisy actually.. the girl described it as a churning sound! So I am wondering what I should be looking for with regards to making sure it doesn't fall to bits at 70mph.

Also, how do you rate molyslip? Anyone used it in their diff?

Thanx!

It could be a wheel bearing gone causing the noise - it does travel along the axle.

If not it may be the bearings in the diff - not really a DIY job unless you've got a) the skills and b) the specialist tools needed to set up the diff backlash properly.

Dammit, I did the wheelbearings a few months back.. didn't make a difference. Thanks though, will start looking around for someone to do the job. :)
