Valve stem oil seals size advice

Post by brooky »

Does anyone know if these type of seals fit the 2.8 cologne engine http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-1-4-1-6- ... Sw~OdVbD3L. I know it doesn't state they are for 2.8 but if I look at the standard seals on sites like Burtons, the 2.8 seal also fits pinto and Essex http://www.burtonpower.com/stem-seal-pi ... ft780.html so I assume all the valves are same. If so, can I fit his type to my 2.8 as I suspect as I am getting a bit of smoke, one or more of my standard type seals could be leaking or may have lifted which is why I prefer this type as the spring makes sure they cannot lift and they are good quality from Victor Reinz.

Also does anyone know where I can get the tool to change the seals without taking the heads off.

Cheers

If the 2.8 has the nominal 8mm diameter valve stems then I don't see why the CVH seals should not fit, the only things to check would be the diameter of the valve springs and how much the guides protrude from the head. If you're at all unsure (like me) then I should go for good quality standard ones.

For valve spring compressors here are a couple of common types

Hope this helps.

I suggest to get green valve seals, they should be suitable with fully synthetic oils.
Latest 2.8 models had them fitted by ford. Often black (not all) are made from cheapest
rubber materials and won't be suitable with todays oils. They last 50% less time then green ones.

Couple of good ones

These valve seal stems are also suitable for double valve springs they fit, inside double springs.
