Battery Relocation Help

Post by WeeksyCapri43 »

Hi All,

i'm currently in the process of putting my BOA V6 project back together and i was wondering if anyone has gone through the conversion of re wiring the battery to the boot? i only ask as there isn't enough space for one up front and i no longer have the battery tray there either.

Whats the best way of wiring the cables up through the car without looking messy?

All your help is appreciated :)

One 'kin thick live wire under the seats and carpet through the car. Much less chance of corrosion or damage that way.

Alternatively you could utilise some of the fresh air under the wing-top and make a battery tray right next to where it is now. Been done a good few times.

Or an even better solution is to use a race gel battery, they're around a third the size of a normal one and can be fitted into the engine bay without any butchery.
I used one in the BOB conversion that I did a few years ago.

I have converted my battery to the boot and it fits fine. I placed mine in the centre and snug against the backseats. I can still have easy access to the spare wheel without any adjustments. Just get some decent battery cable or some long jump leads and your in business. Lift up the carpet and I think feed under or around the back seats and then it's fine to run with the existing wiring loom. The only problem I found was to make a penetration through the the bulkhead that stops water ingress. It can solved easily though.

Battery to boot

Pros
- More weight to rear axle, better grip
- More space to under bonnet
- Battery won't won't be affected by heat and dirt, lasts longer.

Cons
- You need to "work" to get suitable battery holder to make it safe in boot.
- You need to calculate how big battery cable you need and how to protect that cable from short circuit (I suggest use some time for this)
- Less space in boot, who needs boot space in sport car... buy a van if you need to move tons of stuff.
