Going to take the plunge and throw the Rover into Crapi , gearbox sounds like a concrete mixer , exhaust is shot , radiator was #ucked 6 years ago diff leaks and has a new whine ( ahem :xd: ) , so instead of fixin' all this shit that I wont need ( ' cept the diff ) for the rover conv makes sense to do the conv now . Any thoughts on this LSD conversion ?

Hi.

Just remember with anything shipped in from the US you will have to pay import tax on the value.

Not sure what % it will be but it can very quickly shoot the price of the parts up.

Also reading the description it says it will work with the MK1,2,3 lotus cortina. I know the MK1 used an English axle not an Atlas/Salisbury axle as fitted to the capri.

I also am not sure what exactly is on offer in the listing and and how it will convert the open diff to an LSD.

Typical conversions are to remove the open Diff unit and refit an LSD unit as the way the internals work is different.

What people do as a cheaper option is to weld the planet gears so that both wheels are locked together but this can be a bit of a pain on a car in regular use that wont be thrashed every day of its life.

You might be better off looking at the Quaife and TranX units. The TranX are very similar to the original 2.8i LSD units where as the Quaife ATB continually shifts the torque of the engine to the wheel with most grip.

Got the latter in the car now but not driven it as still processing the upgrades for the brakes to finish it off.

Hope you find what you are looking for

LSD? Hey, far out man! Peace, love, oneness! Nixon and his warmongery will see the truth! Disarm the nukes, tear down the wall, show the world that love is the way!

Oh, THAT kind of LSD. Hey, the back of the Capri has stepped "far out".. because it's not "heavy" man! LOVE device man!

Does any body know if the Mk4-5 Cortina diff has the same centre as the Capri ..... like could I fit the crown wheel and pinion assy from the Capri ( inc the lsd ) into the Teeny ( 4 link ) diff housing ( to keep the same ratio ) ? Just trying to think of ways to 4 link the Crapi without spending heaps .

Hi,

Brake upgrades I am doing on the rear is the brackets and vented discs from Caprisport, Good products, poor delivery times and customer service.

Then fitting Scorpio Cosworth rear callipers to the car.

Decided to change direction on the front and have just fitted 260mm discs with Wilwood Midilight callipers. About half the weight of the std brakes and 4 pot.

Standard . The whole idea was to fit the Rover without chopping Crapi. I made engine mounts that put the rubber mount about 1/2 way down the side of the block...... which is why the headers are in two bits ... so I can fit them around the mount/ steering Colum/ x member with the engine in place . Only down side is that once the sump was made to fit there was only room for about 3 litres of oil ... so I plan to run enough remote filters to hold about a litre ... or so . I can send pix if your interested :)
