See my thread on replacing valve stem seals, changing them on my Essex reduced oil consumption to pretty much Zero, any oil will be just a band aid fix, it's not that hard, or expensive to do if you have basic knowledge of your engine.

+1 for the positive effect of changing valve stem oil seals
+ for the quality of Victor Reinz seals & gaskets .

They are pretty much one of the best things ive ever done to the car. Now i can start it up in a car park and not be worried or embarrassed that im gonna create a huge plume of smoke and make everyone point and laugh, or that the wind is gonna blow it all back into the cabin which has happened a few times.
