St170 2.8 cross member -no extended water rail ??

St170 2.8 cross member -no extended water rail ??
If I'm using a 2.8 cross member would I need to not use the thermostat rail (£240) piece of pipe on the st170 conversion in a capri as xmember sits 2 ish inches further forward ??
