Pinto Tunning

Post by PintoJack »

Hello!

Sorry to just post sporadic questions...

Can anyone recommend somewhere I can take my beloved Capri to get the carb's balanced and timing sorted? I split my time between Suffolk and London so anywhere between those would be good!

Cheers!

Depends what spec your running? Carbs balanced? Do you have twin 40's? Cam? You need the Cam timed? This sort of thing needs a rolling road.
If, however, as I suspect, you have a std setup with a 32/36 Weber (doesn't need balancing) cam with no vernier and you need to sort the ignition timing then you can do this yourself with the help of a Haynes manual or similar. There are some on here who may volunteer their services if they are in a suitable location and sort it for you (Haverhill myself) but DO NOT take it to a modern garage, they won't have a clue and will probably fuck it up. An old chap in an "under the arches" style setup will be able to sort it, look hard to find one they are disappearing.

That can be so true that can. I've seen modern mechanics scratch heads and stare at an older car, only for an older guy armed with nothing more than a screwdriver and fag in his mouth to give 30 seconds of his time under the bonnet, and the issue is fixed. There is a lot to be said for real old school skill and knowledge.

If it can't be plugged into a laptop they don't understand these days. Computer tells them the faulty part and they replace it.

Not always the case!
They normally replace SEVERAL parts before the problem is solved :sarcasmalert:

I have twin 45's and an RL31 Cam. It's a bit of a beast. I think the car is quite well known on here as it's Terra-Kota's old charge. I have been able to keep it pretty sweet and sort out a lot of the rubbish that the guy between myself and him messed with. Tuning is a little beyond my talents though..

Bring it to CRaP (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=50682) and let Glyn have a look at it!

Blatantly the best idea.

You need Chris Todd from Slough fella. He does weekly evening sessions but is VERY much in demand.
