Tt 280 query about hose/pipe

Post by CapriCrayford3000 »

Dear all

Just doing a little maintenance to my 280 tt n noticed the hose/rubber pipe shown in the attached photos to have a cut in it.

Would anyone happen to know where this pipe goes to / what it's purpose is? What is the little metsl thingy that it is attached to?

Any assistance much appreciated .....

In both pics I have highlighted the relevant part in red. One shows it connected to the metsl thingy n the other shows it dis connected.

Why don't you simply trim off the split end , reroute the pipe slightly and just reconnect it?

Thanks but tried doing exactly that but it's not long enough to reach.

Does it look similar to anything on a standard 280 / 2.8i engine? Or related specifically to a turbo technics kit (230bhp version).

Any help appreciated once again!

It's not standard but I've not seen it on any of the Turbo Technics cars that I've either owned or built for customers.

I've zero experience with the TTs, but if you can explain where the other 2(?) pipes go, and maybe provide pictures we can work out what it is.

Have you tried tracing the pipe back to see where it comes from?

Has it got wiring to the unit the pipe goes on to?

My money is on it having had an electronic boost controller on it at some point.

Errrmmmm no idea at the moment but on weekend when I get time I'm going to try n follow where the pipe goes.

I never knew turbo technics do servicing/maintenance work! I called them today and asked whether they would give my 280 tt the once over as the car is doing funny things when the turbo/engine is really pushed (maybe related to that cut in the hose?). The gentleman said they do have such a facility. They charge 50 quid for a diagnostic and 50 quid labour for any work done.

The bits shown are located/affixed to the passenger side wing.

Does anyone know if Dr Brooklands visits/participates on thus site as apparently the previous owner bought it off a guy who bought it off Dr Brooklands? ?

Apparently it's to do with the boost switch on the f9 tt kit which switches between 200 n 230bhp

As a temporary fix could you cut the pipes back to solid rubber and splice in/ join them with a bit of steel/copper/stiff plastic pipe just to give you enough length to connect everything up? The other pipe also looks like it needs attention.

So it's an electronic boost controller then.... ;)

There is an 'anti run-on valve' on ebay that looks exactly like this. It appears to be a genuine ford part. It may have been used as a boost controller as the operation could serve both purposes.

Seems as though it is the boost controller.

BTW I meant the f16 kit not f9

Delivered car to turbo technics today.

One of the guys who will be doing the bits n pieces has been with the firm from inception and was actually involved in developing /fitting the original kits back in the 80s!
