So stupidly i spld my 2.8 tank.....
And personally I thought the external fuel pump was a bad idea cuz they get dirty and corode, all cars nowerdays have internal fuel pumps, some in a little plastic cassette which is basically a combined swirl pot

So what you've just said applies to every single car on the road made after 1996, some even before that. How many of them have gone kaboom? The top of these fuel pump have just 2 connections surely cannot be that hard?

You need oxygen for a spark
And It's the vapour that burns. If you could find a way to put a match straight into petrol without encountering any fumes on the way it would simply go out.
If everything is totally immersed in fuel you will be fine.
But still 'get the wiring right'. No point in tempting fate.
Even the external fuel pumps are basically running an electric motor inside a casing full of fuel.

Cut as big an area of tank base around the pump as you can otherwise you risk melting the swirl pot during welding.
You'll also need to consider cleaning the internal weld as much as possible to reduce chances of slag remaining. Best for flushing/washing out is a bottle of white-spirits, cheap as chips, will not be a problem if any remains (will evaporate anyway) and won't readily ignite - I tested it. Also it's good for checking soundness of a weld for leakage, water isn't any good.
And - when the guy at the scrappy says "It's empty mate, we drain them all when they come in" Don't believe a word of it whilst you're under there with a hammer & sharp chisel.

Capris have sender units mounted to the side of the tank but most newer cars have sender/pump/swirl pot mounted on the top of the tanks usually accessed below the rear seat bench. So I think using a newer pump as a sender aswel would not work because it would be in the wrong position.

If it was in the correct tank it would `work` but it wouldn`t be calibrated for the capri`s gauge so the readings would be wrong.

Existing sender just stays in the original tank - no problems. It's just the pump & pot required for such a job. A Pro-welder would be useful.
