15mm Fuel Pipe

Post by MattMe »

Might sound stupid, but I can't find 15mm ID fuel pipe anywhere online.
It's for the small section from fuel tank to the fuel pump. Tickover sell it for £5. But I have 2 issues with that - firstly that's a lot to pay for a few cm of hose, secondly it's cotton braided, which I'd rather not use if I can help it.

I've look on a few on-line hose shops etc and eBay but can't seem to locate any.

If anyone can point me to anywhere else I can buy it that'd be ace.

Cheers,
matt

Hi Matt,
I bought mine from Tickover, as you say a bit pricey. Are you sure its 15mm and are you talking inside or outside dia of the hose?

For the fuel return pipe and breather assembly I used 2 sample lengths of this with a 6mm inside dia http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140651643496? ... EBIDX%3AIT. It was a bit tight going onto the fuel return pipe but better that than too loose!

All the best
Neil

Hi Neil.

Yep, it's definitely 15mm ID (inside diameter) on the tank to pump connections.
Maybe I'll just go with Tickover. :(

Cheers,
Matt

Probably best..... It does fit, it is as originally fitted and you do get a couple of new clips with it. Must say I did think it was expensive for a few inches of pipe

Hi,
The Tickover hose does sound expensive on the face of it. However, you're getting a part that will definitely fit. If you can't source the correct size fuel hose anywhere else, you may not have any choice anyway.

Very true.
It does get worse though.

Including shipping it's over £10! Not much in the scheme of things, I know, just surprised I can't find it anywhere at all.
Oh well

Well, if they're selling an item that can't be bought elsewhere, then they are able to charge as much as they like!

Sometimes, I've tried to avoid paying high prices like this by buying an alternative item from somewhere else. Inevitably, when it arrives it doesn't fit and I've had to buy another in a slightly different size. It ends up costing more than buying the correct item in the first place!

Pretty sure I bought some for another project a couple of years ago from think automotive.

Pretty sure I've seen the hose listed by Burton Power & possibly even places like car builder solutions & Europa. Not sure what Rally Design do these days as I've had the textile type aeroquip hose & fittings from them in the past (and the icore braided hose & ally fittings).

It is annoying to have to pay over the odds for this type of stuff but it's the fact it sits on the shelf which adds to the cost. It's the kind of thing that you can pick up at shows etc but as it's so difficult to tell proper fuel tolerant hose from regular rubber hose it's probably not worth the risk unless it's from a trusted seller.

Cheers guys, I've ordered the part from Tickover.
Not worth the hassle of ordering something that's not going to do the job.

Thanks as always for the input.

For what it's worth, I think you made the right choice. My mechanic mate who looks after my Capri was recommissioning a 280 for a customer of his over the summer. Hadn't started or moved since 1993 and that section of pipe had been replaced with what looked like garden hose(!)(?). Went with Tickover in the end. Could not find the right diameter and spec anywhere else for less.
