Mornin all, can you get repair panels for the back end? I mean the bit behind the rear wheel under the wrap round plastic bumper end.

Hi Nick,

Do you mean the lower corner?

There's various suppliers and prices on ebay and probably Martin or another Capri specialist will be able to supply them as well.

Probably a stupid question but how do these work? It's just that i have a suspicious looking raised patch on the rear corner under the bumper end cap, and was wondering if i could replace that patch. As you can probably tell i am no expert in doing cars up, in fact my ghia is my first.

Hi there,
There's no such thing as a stupid question, if you don't ask, you'll never find the answer.

The rusted section of the car has to be cut out and the repair section is welded in place.
If it's been welded on top of the rusted metalwork it's a right bodge job.

All the best,
Andrew.

This is true Andrew, I'm working on the car all weekend so I shall have a poke, but I think it will be rotten, so it's really handy that I can a replacement bit.

Hi Bobby,
Those panels can be bought from Turbo Breakers in Charminster. They do a large range of Ford panels and a deal can be had if you pop in with some cash in your back pocket ;)

As Andrew has said they are welded in. The chances are the panel behind it will be shot also that can be repaired with some sheet steel. Its not the easiest job in the world if you have no welding experience, so possibly pay you to find a good body shop to fix it.

All the best

Hi neil, how's it going?

I shall make a list of bits I need this weekend then take a trip down there. Luckily my friend who is a hgv fitter happens to be quite handy with a welder :D , which is very handy, as I am not.

Hi Bobby,
That's good that you know someone who is handy with a welder. He will become invaluable as you restore your Capri.
Give me a shout if you need a hand putting that list together :)

i had to do both lower rear corners and found that i bought repair panels and had to make up inner repair panels.
easy to do if the car is on a spit like mine, arse to do otherwise.
you can buy inner repair lower corner panels from i think express panels but are very expensive and very easy to make up yourself.
Plans have changed to just make a good fun Track Car :)
