Sunroof felt(?) seal
What exactly is it made of? How to I clean/treat it? It's looking very dry, cracked, and is growing lichen or something right now.

Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
Mine was knackered too so I've recently replaced it.
I got mine from Capri Club, although there probably are some cheaper ones out there:

Oh that sounds good, was it easy enough to fit?
Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
Those ones from the club say they are rubber...is that a misprint or?

Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
Hi,
I have read on another forum that a replacement felt seal from a Golf Mk2 is a better fit than the Capri Club or East Kent versions.
Obviously I've not tried it myself, but there might be something in it. It might be worth researching further.
The club seal says their seal takes time to bed in before it fits properly. Hope you won't get a wet head in the meantime!
All the best,
Andrew.

Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
Hi,
I've just found this thread about the CCI seals on another forum.
http://www.capripower.co.uk/boardold/lo ... t9610.html
It's a few years old, but it confirms that the CCI seals are rubber and don't have any felt bits. It also mentions the Golf seal.

Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
I always use the Golf seals whenever I can. They're not cheap but they are very good.
Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
Which model golf would that be, just for reference?

Hi,
Here's one.
I haven't shopped around for the cheapest, I've just linked to this one because it has good photos that show the felt on the rubber.

Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
Hi, I can confirm the CCI seal is not a good fit, mine is really tight to open and close and it doesn't sit right, so much so I'm worried I might snap the winder, I was told they take time to bed in but it's been 12 months and it's no better, think I might have a look at a Golf one I didn't know there was an alternative,
Regards
Dave

I think it's the seal for any Mk2 Golf that is the best fit.

Re: Sunroof felt(?) seal
I fitted a cci seal and it was a very bad fit, I was told to let it bead in so waited 3 months, and still looked just as bad I tired adjustment on sunroof but still looked really bad, so brought a genuine golf mk2 sunroof seal of eBay £65 which is a 100% perfect fit.

What a difference between VW and Ford in their attitude towards supplies of parts for older models.
I haven't tried asking at a Ford dealer about a new sunroof seal, but I suspect I'd get laughed out the place......
All the best,
Andrew.

That's a crazy amount for the VW one! Might take a chance on the East Kent one, they're have a good rep at least. If I can figure out their crazy backwards website that is!
