Hi everyone my capri's developed this tapping/nocking sound a few month's after i put a new coil spring on the drivers side as the passenger side had a new one put on by the last owner and my drivers side old spring was getting really worn as it was the original spring. the noise is coming from the drivers side new coil spring/strut assembly. i made a video to best describe the sound and where its coming from, i hope someone on here can tell me what it is as its annoying and only happens when you go over bumps and down pot holes etc at speed. but you can't hear it when you go over bumps slowly, the noise in the video is exactly what i hear in the car but 10 times worse.

Re: front suspension tapping/knocking sound
Is it a shortened spring as it just sounds like the springs loose?

Re: front suspension tapping/knocking sound
no its a standard size spring for a 1.6 mk3 capri, should i have a go at tightening the nut on the top mount and see if that helps.
Re: front suspension tapping/knocking sound
Not sure if that's the spring moving or the top cup moving (in which case, yes, make sure the top nut is tight) -
Take it the car is jacked up in the video?

Re: front suspension tapping/knocking sound
I don't think there should be that much movement in the spring if it's under load (i.e. the weight of the car is on it's wheels) should there?dan the capri fan wrote:... also the cars not jacked up i just turned the wheel full lock to right and laided down underneath with the camera.
Are you sure this spring is a match for the passenger side?
Re: front suspension tapping/knocking sound
My car did the same when the locking nut that holds the damper in wound itself loose, it was letting the whole assembly rock in and out.
Since I got a capri I've said "over the moon" a lot more than ever before.
