Got my new speakers today. They sound a lot better than the old ones!!!



If you're interested in fitting some of these speakers, you'll need some longer screws and a few washers to lower the speaker to allow the tweeter to not touch the grill.

I managed to find some screws in my little collection. They are used for screwing cupboards together.

Managed to buy a tidy uncut dash the other day. So at some point I'll get it back to original.
The only problem I have, is my car has had electric windows fitted. Which is sort of handy and although its not standard I think I want to stay with it. And the switches are in the dash, so I need to relocate the switches because I don't want to cut holes in the new dash At the moment I can't think of a good place for the switches. So I'm hoping I might get some inspiration from Beaulieu.

Electric windows are a useful modification and definitely worth keeping. As you know, in the Capri there aren't a lot of choices of where to locate the switches. I've only ever seen them mounted in the fascia. Is there room in the centre console somewhere, or maybe you could buy a Tickford centre console instead?

Hi Andrew,
I'm currently thinking the switches might fit where my broken clock is. If I ever get it out Alternatively a switch box between the clock and the gearstick utilising the screw that holds the console in place. Either way I don't want to cut any holes in anything incase I want to go back to standard at some point.

Hi sorry sort of jump in here on the band wagon with head units and speakers so with the banter and bits I really don't know what size speakers to Order as I think if Iam right ( Ford Capri 2.0 laser 1987 standard ) the rear speaker are 10cm and will fit straight under the two rear shelfs , link about this on the alpine ones also the fronts Iam guessing is 6x4 but not sure as I want to still keep the grills on the door cards so all looks normal . No I will not be cutting any holes in my doors or the parcel shelf .

Then there is the head unit I have the standard ERST32PS what does work but when I try a cassette adabtor with a iPod it works for 2 seconds then goes on to radio ? Have tried two as somebody on here that the Sony was the best bet . But have not tried a cassette yet as I don't have one but hope to get one from my parents house this weekend to test . But I love my music and would like to stream music keeping the original radio cassette so have been looking at this

Radioplayer Car it's called and fits behind the dash board , Iam worried about the micro phones and the DAB aerial as I don't want that stuck in the front windscreen . Here's the web site http://connectmycar.com/radio-player-car

The fronts are definitely 6x4, I'm not sure about the rears. Choice for front speakers is limited as they have to fit behind the grille, as you say. Therefore, a lot of speakers with the secondary cone in the centre won't fit.

With regards to sound quality, MP3 files are highly compressed and won't sound high quality when playing through loudspeakers.
Does anyone make an in-car vinyl record player?

Cheers for that , I remember somebody having a record player in there Triumph in the early 80s I might take the car to one of these audio places and have a play with there speakers have also been looking at them old equalisers from the 80s I should have kept all them car bits back in the days , I bet we all say that why did I listen to the wife ? .

Quick off topic funny thing getting the Capri some 3 weeks now my 10 year old daughter said ther a strange money box in the back for keeping change in when I looked it was the rear ashtrays so when I said what they were she said people smoked in a car ? Your joking dad as that would never happen . ( if only she new )

I don't think that's true to be honest. The compressed parts are those the human ear cannot distinguish anyway. Modern MP3's especially, sound great.

I play them a lot in any car and also through my home system, loud and proud

They are a standard 10cm speaker, loads available. Co-axials will give best sound, just watch there is clearance above the speaker for the tweeter part. Something like this should fit ok- http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/speaker ... e-spg-10c2

Yes many thanks the rears are 10cm I orderd these speakers what fit , only small thing use there screws and clips that come with the speakers and fit inside the speaker bracket not outside like the ford ones .
