So, i've heard a lot of bad things when it comes to sun roofs on Capri's.... however im having issues with mine and i want it sorted.
My problems are;
1) It wont retracts fully, it gets about 1/4 of the way back and stops (handle goes stiff and it wont go back any more, but it tilts correctly. However, when i bought it it worked fine and it went back all the way. There was some heavy rain and a few heat waves and it just stopped working?
2) Its scratching the top of the sunroof, the paint is coming off, its always been scratched. And im assuming it needs adjusting???
So, i would like to know how to fix the issue, if anyone has a guide or could be of any help as i have no idea what im doing with it, and i dont really want to brake it.
Thanks, Tom.

Tom,
I think that you need to drop the headlining to give you access to the cable and mechanism.
It may need adjusting and/or cleaning out.
There is a bit of a write-up here that might be of some use:

I was afraid someone would say that. Haha
Ive been told its incredibly difficult to refit the head lining? As i wanted to remove it anway, so i could paint it black to match the rest of my custom interior. Any tips or tricks on fitting it without it sagging?
Thanks, Tom.

It's a common problem for the sunroof to be marked/scratched as a result of retracting unfortunately. I don't know whether adjustment will solve it. If it were me, I would paint the sunroof and use it on tilt only. I rarely retract mine because I don't want it to scratchsparks wrote:

Re: Mk3 Sunroof
The scratching on retraction is often due to the subframe in the roof rusting, and those rust blisters scratching the roof as it slides back.
Have a look in the slot with it tilted. May not be a pretty sight.
Just wait till the blisters come through the roof skin.
Only proper solution is dismantlement, rust treating and re-paint, which on mine I need to do both inside and out.

All I will say is, on a positive note, is that if it is rusting under the roof, but hasn't come through the top skin yet, then going through the embuggarance of cleaning up / jenolite-ing it from the inside now, is better than leaving it a few years until its come right through!

I bet mine is longer than yours Tomsparks wrote:Oh well, just another thing to add to the never ending list
When I open my sunroof as i close it i make sure i reach out and push down on sunroof so it does not catch anywhere. This seems to do the trick for me but i got long arms
Good luck sorting it out mate

doesn't help much but that's why I had my roof skin cut off and had a non sunroof skin fitted. A bit drastic but there you go.....
