Power steering
I have a mk111 and am wanting to know a bit about fitting power steering , no problems with the pump but the rack is where I don't know . Does a later v6 crapi rack fit straight in ? , or do you have to modify something to fit , worth the hassle ?

Re: Power steering
I think from memory they fitted a 2.8i rack and modified it I don't think they fitted a 2.8i crossmember.
Haven't you got muscles? Power steering takes 9 bhp to run all the time. And you'd only need it between 0-5 mph.

Re: Power steering
Ok looked in to this myself.
IF it is a pinto 4 cylinder model then you need a modified cross member
got quoted about £180 from Tickover.
then you can use the 2.8 power steering rack
you'd need the power steering pump and mount for the pinto if I recall correct they come off a mark 3 Granada.
I worked out if I did all the conversion work i'd would set me back 400-500 quid.
Is it worth it? that's is down to you if you are finding it hard to drive without the PAS
then it worth it.
I did decide against this myself however I may have to rethink now.

Re: Power steering
Hi,
Aren't roller top mounts supposed to lighten the steering? A lot cheaper than the PAS conversion.
Andrew.

Re: Power steering
Would you not consider something like a corsa electric set up?
Could be less work and more importantly a lot lighter.

Re: Power steering
Yeah you can use the 2.8 crossmember, it shifts the engine and gearbox forward about 3/4" so you may need to adjust your gearbox mounts, the 2l engine mounts are stll needed and they will fit on the 2.8 crossmember, the 2.8 pump will work, but, you`ll need to get a sierra/granada pinto powersteering pump bracket and tensioner, or make one yourself. Ive done the job myself so know its no biggy.
