wiring loom tape in engine compartment
Hi,
Now I know this may sound like a pretty darn silly question but I gonna take a risk of being lynched and come right out and ask it....
The insulating tape used to wrap the wirings in engine compartment keeping everything in order- is this just standard insulating tape or is it a high temperature resistant tape because of its location under the bonnet ? I want to tidy mine up a bit you see and I sure I seen different grades of tape around.
Sometimes in life you just have to be brave and ask away !

There's no such thing as a silly question. There's stuff you already know and if you don't know the answer to something else, just ask away!
I've always used regular tape in black, as I think the wiring is far enough away from the action to not be affected by the heat. I think that proper temperature resistant tape has a silver reflective finish. You could always go over it again with this tape at the first sign of a problem.
I like the look of the blue tape that elliecharlie2008 has used. It works well against the white bodyshell of his car. With your lacquer red paint, if it was me, I would stick with the regular black tape.
All the best,
Andrew.

Re: wiring loom tape in engine compartment
Thanks guys.
I did see some pretty good quality b&q insulating tape that does look better than the stuff you can buy in Pound Land and Sam 99p !
I also really like what elliecharlie2008 has done using the blue tape against the white, looks really really good but like you said Andrew don't think the blue would look as nice in my engine compartment so think I will stick with the black.
I am always learning new bits of info here so much appreciate your help again.

Hi,
Also, seeing the wiring loom on the kitchen floor shows how intricate the loom is for such a basic car, in terms of electrical equipment!

That spam filter has kicked in again! You know what I mean, the floor of the room in the house where the cooking is done.

It isn't no. You can get specific loom tape. I have wrapped (small sections) using normal electrical tape, it sometimes doesn't last long, loosens and leaves a sticky mess.Fordoholic Nick wrote:

Hey Andrew,
I was a bit confused why you were being so insulting about the floor in the room where the cooking is done belonging to elliecharlie2008
Thanks for your reply pbar. Hopefully the better quality stuff I got should be ok. It does seem better quality than the cheaper stuff I seen. I only been tidying up sections of it so hope it lasts ok. Thanks again.

Re: wiring loom tape in engine compartment
Hopefully most people will realise it was the forum filter that changed the word. I wasn't being rude, it's a perfectly nice floor in the room of the house where the cooking is done.Fordoholic Nick wrote:I was a bit confused why you were being so insulting about the floor in the room where the cooking is done belonging to elliecharlie2008

Re: wiring loom tape in engine compartment
just an example of what a different color can do for an engine bay granted you carnt see the one in the cabin when the interior is back in but on the white on the engine bay it stood out a little more
originally I was going to move the loom/fuse box and hide it to give a cleaner look but decided against it in the end

Hi.
Thanks alot for sending me the link to your original thread.
Absolutely stunning what you achieved fella. Really enjoyed looking through the pics of your build. Amazing stuff.
Such a shame you had to sell up. Must have been really tough on you. But glad to hear you "back on em" as you said.
Are you gonna build another capri ?

Re: wiring loom tape in engine compartment
spira wrap is good too, and the secret to using insulation tape is not to stretch it when wrapping , especially near the ends of a wrap , coz it will shrink back and leave a stickey mess and a flapping end piece of tape
Sometimes I talk to myself ... and we both have a good laugh

Thanks alot for sending me that link to more of your superb work.
Fella you are a legend. Simple.
That poor capri you rescued after sitting for 20yrs in a garage covered in total crap looked a bloody terrible and sorry state in your "before" photo.
Seeing the Matt Black finished article simply stunning mate.
Steve can you tip me the wink if any houses come up for sale on your road. I just told the missus we moving to Doncaster
Keep up the fantastic work in keeping the legend alive. Look forward to seeing more of your work.
