Chassis number

Post by mrusedcarguy »

Hi, is it possible to get the chassis number and other log book / V5 details for a Capri I owned many years ago ? It was last taxed and presumably on the road back in 1991. If it is possible where is the best place to look or start. I no longer have the log book for it. Thanks in advance Nick.
Hey mister my dad had one of those.

Hi Nick,

In a nutshell, no. Not through any official channels anyway. If you know the reg, you can plonk it into the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry website to get CC and tax dates etc... But the V5 document number and vehicle VIN are classed as personal data to the registered owner, and so therefore are covered by the data protection act.

What did you want to know anyways?

Hi,
I'm curious to know why too. I can't imagine a situation where I would ever want a chassis number from a car I have previously owned. Please tell! :)

Andrew.

Hi guys, it`s because I have a shed full of parts, enough to make a complete car, so I thought it would be good to sort of own it again providing it`s not on the road or someone else does own it of course. I did think after I posted that hpi may still have the details on record so I`ll try that. Cheers Nick.

Hi,
Well, I wasn't expecting that answer! If the car has been scrapped it wouldn't be possible to reclaim the chassis number anyway, would it?

Andrew.
