DASH CAMERA ADVICE

Post by blitzy »

Can anyone recommend a VERY good car camera.
As I am getting pissed off with some people on the road today
I had woman in a shit little yellow car violently cut myself and a lorry driver up she went from the far right turn right lane right in front of the lorry and she was on course to hit the front of my truck with the N/S rear of her car It was only because I cut the gas we didn't collide BUT am willing to bet If we did I'd have another stupid tart trying to blame me.

hence the dash cam

I after a good one not one of these cheap jobs

so any product reviews etc?

Hi,
I'm interested in the replies, as I'm planning to get one myself. Let's hope someone has some experience of them.

If i were u i would get one you can clip to the dash and yourself so when u get out and they are arguing with u then u have all the evidence to protect yourself.

Sod the camera!
Where can I get a Gatlin gun, as fitted to the A10 Warthog!

Can you imagine just vapourising the silly cow in front? Especially with a noise that sounds like a huge fart!

Best camera out there by far are GoPro's
Lots of versions out there, I have and use the first generation one, with a 32gb SD card, will film for hours upon hours at amazing resolution. If your watching TV, and there's first person stuff being filmed, its almost always a GoPro that filmed it :)
There is even a 3D one :D
The newer model ones can take up to 64GB SD Cards which will give you hours of filming at 1080p, all though 720p would be more than enough for a dash cam (the camera can b configured to do either, or even take photos every few seconds etc...)

Must admit, I`ve had fantasies inspired by the chariot scene in Ben Hur....
My biggest wish is for a bloody big spring loaded ram which you could unleash at the stupid t**t that`s just carved you up `cos they can`t follow a lane round a roundabout.....!!

Hi,
On a similar note, does anyone remember those little boxes that could be mounted on the dash? It had the sounds of a grenade, machine gun, and some others that I can't remember, all at the touch of a button. Great for stress relief! :)

I have to say, I've seen one of the cheap £40 amazon ones in action, and it's actually quite impressive. I can't comment on the durability of it, but if it only lasts a year, £40 isn't bad.

Other end of the scale, my friend has one of the latest gopro cameras. Also very impressive, but at ten times the price.

Hi,
I can't remember the last time I saw another driver actually follow the lane around the roundabout. I thought I was the only one still doing it! :)

Andrew.
Please don't get me started on this one...... Lane discipline (or lack of, to be more precise) is my MAJOR pet hate on the roads these days - I mean, the clue lies in the friggin name - ROUNDabout not straight-feckin-on-about - gah! :banghead:

It's so bad they've started painting nice dotted lines out onto the roundabouts now haven't they - and 90% still can't get it right - and as for correct lane positioning with regards your intended exit (particularly turning right) It seems any lane will do as long as you're fast enough to undertake everyone on the inside all the way round and act like the victim when you get cut up or incur the wrath of (the few) drivers doing the right thing! :wank:

Pfft. Put me right off my tea now that has

Hi Mike,
Have you also noticed how many car drivers swing out to the middle of the road before turning left into a side turning? I've lost count of the amount of times another driver has nearly hit me head-on by doing this. :swear: :swear: :swear:

Hi Andrew,
you mean one of these....
Image
I had one in a Capri 2.0 GL, in the early 80's, wired in to a PA through a CB, GREAT FUN!!!

As to the Camera discussion, I got one from Maplin's a while ago, using a 16Gig card, it records in blocks of 10 Mins I think it is, with a G'Sensor, so if the car gets hit, or you slam the door too hard, it saves the last 5 Mins and the next 5 Mins and cannot be deleted till you connect it to a PC, as it has a built in screen, so you could delete the play back by accident if watching it on this. I will admit it's a tad on the large side, but great value at £70 approx a few Months ago up in Yorkshire...
This is it...

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/in-car-720p-c ... reen-n01cd

A good clear Pic and seems quite good at night when played on the PC. It's an entry level to the whole Camera thing I think... Cheers,

John...

Hi John,

That's the one! That brings back many happy memories. :)
Great idea wiring it to a loudspeaker, bet it made pedestrians jump out of their skin!
Who were they made by? I've got to get one for the Capri!

Hi Andrew,
I've been looking for one for a while again recently. I'm going to have to go up North to visit the folks and go through the Garage up there, should be 3 or 4 buried around there.
In the meantime, if you have an I Phone, I did come across this,

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sound-b ... 73615?mt=8

not available for Android yet though.... Dam!!!

Also, just a thought to anyone reading this, its the Wonderland Week End this Week End in Nottingham, 45 Years of the Capri and 50 of the Mustang... 300 + Cars expected. Think I'll be off up to this on Sat if I get out of work....

http://www.capriclub2000.co.uk/wonderland

cheers all,

John...

I bought one of these from ebay. I've had it almost a year now and have no complaints. Sure there are better cameras out there but it is cheap and isn't that bad. You can see everything clearly enough and can read number plates.

Hi,
I've just bought a Mio Mivue 338 and can highly recommend it. Excellent value for money.

I have one of those. Cheap and cheerful, but does the job and quality isn't bad. It's a bit bulky though, and I don't know how you'd mount one in a capri other than suction cup to the windscreen (hassle taking it off and putting it back)
